MES COLLEGE SHINES AT INTER-COLLEGIATE TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP




The Men's Taekwondo team of MES College recently won third place at the Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Championship organized by Goa University. It won one gold, one silver and four bronze medals. The Women's team from MES College won one silver medal. The medal winners according to various weight categories are: Vijay Rajput, Gold medal, upto and including 68 kg; Basangouda Patil, Silver medal, upto and including 63kg; Ravindra Mallah and Ramu Rathod, Bronze Medal, upto and including 80kg and Venkatesh Malagimani and Sagar Kasar, Bronze medal, upto and including 54kg; Tejasvi Kankonkar, Silver medal, upto and including 53kg.

MES COLLEGE CELEBRATES WORLD TOURISM DAY




The Department of Travel & Tourism, M.E.S. College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, celebrated World Tourism Day in the Seminar Hall of the College. The Chief Guest for this function was the former Deputy Director for Tourism Ms. Pamela Mascarenhas and Chef Raj Nair from H.Q. Vasco was the Guest of Honour. Ms. Pamela Mascarenhas spoke on careers in Tourism Business and Chef Raj spoke on Careers in the Hospitality Industry. Dr. Cidalia Bodade, the Head, Department of Travel & Tourism gave an aerial view of the subjects taught for the Travel & Tourism course in the college which has completed 22 successful years. 

Vice Principal Prof. V.V. Sail welcomed the gathering and Ms. Rupali Shetye proposed the vote of thanks. After the inaugural function, the students of Travel & Tourism entertained the guests with a beautiful variety entertainment programme.

NSS Unit of M. E. S. College of Arts & Commerce organises Blood Donation Camp



The NSS Unit of M. E. S. College of Arts and Commerce in collaboration with Lions Club, Cortalim and Goa Medical College organised a Blood Donation Camp in the Swami Vivekananda Hall of the College campus on September 24, 2015.



NSS volunteers, students and staff turned up in large numbers to donate blood. A total of 86 units of blood were received during the donation. The donors received a certificate of appreciation for their service to humanity. A donor’s card was also provided to the donors by Goa Medical College Blood Bank.

The Principal of M. E. S. College, Dr. R. B. Patil, NSS Programme Officers - Prof. Sanjiv K. Shirodkar, Prof. Shveta S. Desai, Prof. Fatima Gomes, Dr. S. Susan Deborah, Prof. Dattaprasad Shirgurkar and Prof. Bhiku V. Bhave and President of Lions Club, Lion Prem Kumar and other members of the Club were also present on the occasion to motivate and appreciate the donors.

MES COLLEGE ORGANIZES STATE-LEVEL PSYCHOLOGY FESTIVAL PSYCHOZEST 2015




The Department of Psychology, M.E.S. College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar organized a one day state level psychology festival “Psychozest 2015” recently. The theme of the festival was “Building Resilience among Adolescents”. Dr Amit Dias, faculty in the department of Social and Preventive Medicine, GMC, and the Chairperson of Sangath (NGO) was the chief guest at the inaugural function. In his speech, Dr. Dias emphasized the need for mental health professionals in dealing with the global burden of disease and stressed on the need to develop resilience. He spoke about how youth could be tools to develop resilience in others. 




The Principal Dr. R. B. Patil welcomed the gathering, the coordinator Prof. Brian Pacheco introduced the theme, and the student coordinator Ms. Valencia Jade D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

The chief guest for the valedictory function was Dr. Ravindra Agrawal, consultant psychiatrist at Manipal Hospital, Panjim and Salgaocar Hospital, Chicalim. Dr. Agrawal began his presentation with several examples of individuals who displayed remarkable resilience and bounced back from failures. 

Students from nine colleges in Goa participated in the event. Several competitions were held as part of the event throughout the day. The first place was bagged by Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao. The second place was secured by St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa while V. M. Salgaocar College, Miramar took the third place. The judges for the events were Dr. Cidalia Bodade, Prof. Veeraj Mahatme, Ms. Cassandra Fernandes, Dr. Meenakshi Bawa, Fr. Seville Antao, Mr. Jojo D’Souza, Mr. Milroy Goes, Mr. Joe Dias, Ms. Apeksha Revankar, and Mr. Allan D’Cruz.
